This was the scene from the ski lift on our 2nd day in the Austrian Alps, near Flachau – the home of Olympic skiing champ Hermann Maier. On the way in it was 65 degree weather (16c), and on the first day of skiing there was hardly any snow, not exactly exciting weather to start a snow vacation. But on the 2nd day a cold front came in and it snowed the rest of the week. It made the mountains look like a postcard. And on the way back a week later the temps were down in the 20s. So that was definitely a successful first skiing trip in the Alps. (January 2007)
