Its Easter today, happy Easter y’all, and over the past 5 years or so we’ve built a tradition of eating Salt Lick BBQ after Sunday morning Easter mass.
The Salt Lick is an Austin must go-to. First off it’s delicious, second it’s fast (convenient when you’re hungry and have little kiddos), and third it’s close by. There are two locations, one a few miles up north where we go to after Easter, and one down south in Driftwood. And that location is definitely pretty stunning. It’s out in the Hill Country, so rolling hills all around, and Texas live oak trees everywhere. And then the restaurant itself is in the middle of a vineyard. You can BYOB, Bring Your Own Beer (and wine), and especially in the Spring its very nice to sit outside, enjoy the weather, eat good food, and enjoy each others company.
The Salt Lick BBQ is probably the second best BBQ restaurant in Austin, in my opinion. The best is Franklin’s, but that requires a 4 to 5 hour wait. I’ve done it once, and the wait went quickly because of the anticipation of the good food, and it didn’t disappoint. Anyways, the Salt Lick is delicious, and always a winner for Easter.
